Because of the complexity and difficulty associated with seeking third party help, Anderson Mediation Services, Inc. has made your referral and intake process easy and convenient. We save you time and energy in obtaining the assistance you need with a simple 5 step Referral and intake process.

Step 1. The referring party contacts AMS to request mediation.
Step 2. The referring party logs on to the AMS website and completes an Assessment/Intake form for approval by AMS. It is the responsibility of the applicant to mail, fax, or hand deliver to the AMS office (Note: An official disposition on the case can be made only after receiving the form.)
Step 3. If the case is appropriate for mediation by AMS the party is notified by phone.
Step 4. If the contacting party wishes to go forward, they complete and sign the appropriate Contract located in the forms section of the website. The contract must be signed by all parties who are responsible to participate and pay for the session.
  • A non-refundable $40.00 processing fee is due with the application. The check or money order can be mailed or hand delivered to the AMS office. This fee will be credited to your mediation bill. 100% of your deposit will be applied to your Mediation Session.
Step 5. Once the processing fee is received, an appointment will be made with the contracting party(s) or organization by phone. Depending upon the complexity of the case AMS will recommend one or two mediators with a background related to your case. In most cases the mediation session will be scheduled within 3-5 business days of the initial acceptance by both parties.

For scheduling purposes: AMS will expect the spokesperson for the parties to propose 2-3 different scheduled days, with a start time between 9am and 5:30pm for the sessions. This scheduling process eliminates problem with finding a date and time that is convenient for all parties.

That’s all you need to do to get started!

Things to remember for Family or General Mediation

  • A typical mediation session lasts 1-3 hours. The session is designed to allow the mediator(s) to facilitate discussion of the issues, and possible ways of resolving the situation. Mediators at times meet privately with each party to further explore the issues.

  • Either party can withdraw from the mediation at any point. If needed, additional sessions can be scheduled by mutual agreement.

  • As parties are able to reach points of agreement, the mediators assist them by recording those points. A final agreement, if reached, can be written or verbal. AMS does not enforce the agreement, and there are no punishments or disciplinary consequences associated with compliance. Mediated agreements tend to work well, however, because both parties have contributed to them. No one needs to sign any agreement he or she does not feel comfortable with.
